This was the last map I worked on while at 343Industries.
I created and applied layered materials that would identify and differentiate specific regions of the map for gameplay purposes. I then maskpainted these sections, to enhance the assets, and drive a narrative or history of the space. This would often also involve some UV re-work, and working with the asset modeler for best results where called for.
This was truly a deceptively enormous map, so Chris Lewis (palette owner for all Banished surfacing) and I split up the space for us each to work on. I surfaced and maskpainted the outer-ring "arm" sections, the entire inner ring, including the upper assets and pit, as well as all of the crates and large containers. Chris worked on the entire main ring.
